Get the Most Out of Your Gas Budget

There are lots of things you can do to save money on fuel and to stretch your gas budget a little farther. First off -- don't speed. For obvious reasons of course, but also because just going 5 mph over the posted speed limit can cost you an extra $0.17 per gallon for gas. Also avoid having your vehicle idle for long periods of time. Just letting your vehicle idle for an hour can burn up to half a gallon of fuel. Use your cruise control when you are driving on the highway and travel streamlined. Don't haul anything on the roof or back of your vehicle if you can help it. If you must, then make sure that you remove any racks or bins when you don't need them. Also try to travel light. So if you've been hauling a bunch of bricks for three months, get them out of your car.
